JOB VACANCY – COMMUNICATIONS OFFICER 

Balkan Green Foundation (BGF) is a regional organisation established to advocate and promote sustainable development in the Western Balkans, specifically concentrating on a number of key topics such as sustainable economic development, environmental protection, energy development, and climate change. 

Position Overview: 

BGF is looking for a dynamic, creative, and organised Communications Officer to join our team in Prishtina. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the promotion of sustainable development initiatives across the Western Balkans, amplifying BGF’s mission and impact. 

As Communications Officer, you will lead the execution of our communication strategy, driving the effective dissemination of information related to our mission, projects, and outcomes to a variety of stakeholders. Your work will involve content creation, producing communications materials for events, fostering media engagement, and supporting project activities. 

Key Responsibilities: 

Communication Strategy and Execution: 

  • Execute BGF’s communication strategy and plans to increase the organisation’s visibility and engagement across different platforms. 
  • Track media coverage and evaluate communication efforts, providing insights and recommendations for improvement. 

Content Creation: 

  • Create engaging, high-quality content for a range of channels, including the BGF website, social media, newsletters, and publications. 
  • Write and edit blogs, articles, and other materials that highlight BGF’s work and successes. Design visually compelling infographics and other graphic design assets for both online and offline communication. 

Media and Stakeholder Relations: 

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with media and key stakeholders to enhance BGF’s media presence and create new partnership opportunities. 
  • Conduct interviews with team members, partners, stakeholders, and community members to capture impactful stories and testimonials. 

Event Support and Campaigns: 

  • Provide communication support for BGF’s events, campaigns, and fundraising activities. Work collaboratively with internal teams to gather information and produce content that aligns with BGF’s messaging and organisational goals. 

Innovation and Trends: 

  • Stay up-to-date with communication trends, emerging technologies, and tools, including Artificial Intelligence, to ensure the effectiveness of communication strategies. 

Additional Responsibilities: 

  • Undertake additional tasks, including providing support for project activities, as directed by the supervisor to help achieve BGF’s objectives and ensure the success of projects.

Requirements / Essential Skills & Qualifications: 

  • Education: University degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Media Studies, or a related field. 
  • Experience: Minimum of two years of relevant work experience, preferably within civil society organisations. 
  • Communication Skills: Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to adapt content for different audiences and platforms. 
  • Content Creation: Proven experience in creating compelling content for a variety of communication channels, including press releases, social media, websites, and marketing materials. 
  • Event and Campaign Support: Ability to support and enhance events, campaigns, and fundraising through targeted communication activities. 
  • Time Management: Strong organisational skills with the ability to prioritise tasks, meet deadlines, and work effectively in a fast-paced environment. 
  • Language Skills: Excellent command of English and Albanian, both written and verbal. Proficiency in additional languages, particularly Western Balkan languages, is a plus. Technical Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office programmes and a strong understanding of digital communication tools. 
  • Self-Starter: Highly self-driven with the ability to work independently and deliver results with minimal supervision. 

Desirable Skills: 

  • Experience with content management systems (e.g., WordPress), newsletter programmes, and design tools such as Canva, Adobe Express, or InDesign. 
  • Skills in photo and video production. 
  • Knowledge of environmental and energy issues in the Balkans. 
  • Some project support experience is an advantage.
